Fashion

1) Lips were enlarged, neck was elongated, eyes brought down, shoulders brought down, cheeks brought in, eyes widened, cheekbones were also elongated.

2) This is more appealing but not necessary. And maybe I only say this because I've loved the fashion world for so long and already new they did this.

3) For me not so much but for a lot of people yes.

4) I would say that the make up and hair is acceptable but all the changes on the computer are not necessary.

5) This difference between fashion photography is that there are always computer alterations to the photograph but with photojournalism all that is used is a camera and that exact moment.

6) Fashion photography is not related to reality at all and that's what makes it so fun it's acting. But the way it's advertised makes everyone ethically feel self aware to the point of over reacting. With photojournalism this on the other hand is totally related to reality because everything stays the same as it was in the exact moment the shutter closes and captures it. This just makes people happy and realize the joy or sadness in life.

Lytro

1) Whatever is not in focus when you click on that area of the photo the unfocused image becomes focused and then what was in focus will then be unfocused.

2) It's touchscreen and the backlit display lets you compose, review, and refocus your photos.

3) The Lytro camera now gives you more control over the light in the scene with the addition of Manual Controls. Set shutter speed and ISO through simple access of the controls from the camera's touchscreen. USe Manual Controls to capture pictures like light paining shots with dramatic refocus and living pictures in motion. The ISo range is 80 min. to 3200 max., and the minimum shutter speed is 1/250. You can also lock exposure and control the ND filter.


4) I would say it is worth paying a little more than $399 for as a photographer because this new technology is really hard to find and it seems really useful and easy to use. But around the holidays you might not want to buy something so expensive with all the other gifts there is to buy for more people.

"Anticipating Behavior
An important element in people photography is knowing your subjects well enough to be able to anticipate what they are going to do. It's the only way you are going to be able to get pictures of it. If you wait until you see it, it's too late. The key is to watch people carefully. Always have your camera ready. If you're going to be shooting in one situation, set the aperture and shutter speed in advance so you don't have to fiddle with them while you're shooting. Watch people through the viewfinder. If you're paying attention, you'll sense what's about to happen."

3-"There are several ways to approach self-portraits. One way is to frame an interesting composition and then, with your compact camera mounted on a tripod or another means of support, use the self-timer (if your camera has one) to trip the shutter after you get into position in front of the lens. Just remember that a self-timer will give you a very limited amount of time to get in position (usually 10 seconds). It helps if you can get a friend to be a stand-in until you can be there, or mark your spot with tape or chalk."

I like this photo because It looks like the photo I would take because I love dancing. And I love how the photographer used the lines in the window seals to lead up to the subject.

I love this photo because of the unfocused part of it. It gives a sense of curiousity and wonder of what is behind all the unfocused material.

This photo is so unique with the fogged rain makes the person look so mysterious. And its in black and white.

This casual portrait is so beautiful with the rule of thirds and colors and of course the wonderful kiss.

My Portrait

The photo I will take will be of my sister if she decides to participate. And she will be on her drums or piano. Where she will be wearing a little eyeliner, and blush. I'm thinking of having a single light on her and I really want to put glitter or something that will move on her instrument when she plays. This photo will take perfect timing. This photo will either be taken in the garage where my sisters drum set is or in the living room where the piano is. I hope to make this photo successful by having a dark background using simplicity, shooting the photos in different positions, and If I use the piano I would use lines. I will need to buy glitter or some kind of material like it. And the toughest thing will be to get my sister to wear makeup.

American Soldier

 

1)
A. This photo is the most powerful, because this moment of someone that is close to you leaving to become a soldier has happened to me before. And for me that is very traumatic and scary. That is why seeing this photo of two grown men that cry for there buddy makes me think back on that moment.

B. Images 1-7 take place in Denver, Ian's home.
     Images 8-50 were taken in basic training.
     Images 51-70 were taken in Iraq.
     Images 71-83  were taken when Ian came back home.

The most powerful set of images were the images 1-7(Ian leaving Denver), because his leaving caused emotional reactions not only on the people in the photos but in me while looking at them.

C. The Images work together by being put into chronological order. If i just looked at the photo above without other before and after I probably would react in a totally different way.

A. The captions under each photo are written in third person present tense.

B. The captions enhance the each photo by explaining what's going on and maybe even some back ground information on each one.

Funny Captions

This picture of words that completly explain themselves is merely just for amusment. It was taken by a park ranger at a nature park who thought it was so funny he had to post it on facebook for everyone to see because you know every nature guy loves technology and just had convienatly a camera on him right then an there. Oh and who can foreget you can smoke in this park!

This photo is showing a sign in the middle of Kansas somewhere and in clearly states that "HITCHHIKERS MAY BE ESCAPING INMATES", with freakin bullet holes in it!!! It was taken by a tourist names Bobby-Joe (whos last name has been cut out). He was driven along and saw this halarious sign warning him to not pick up any hitchhikers with bullet holes in it.  

This picture says itself that only in Texas is there a guy with a cowboy hat washing his cows a@# in the car wash. This was taken by Kayla Luve, a tourist, who at the time was getting her car washed and saw this man washing his cow in the car wash.

1) The PRYPIAT, UKRAINE amusement park is pretty scary with all of the broken rides, and the trees growing over them as if the world is ending. It makes me want to go there because it reminds me that sometimes fun things can't always exist.It was home to the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant workers. The city was abandoned in 1986 following the Chernobyl disaster. Its population had been around 50,000 prior to the accident.

 

Five other places that photographers might find interesting to go to are unusual homes, different factories, Native American pow-wows, Asylum's (old or new), or science labratories.

Great Black and White Photographers Part 3

1) Picasso and the Loaves-  The first thing that caught my eye about this photo was the fact that it looks like Picasso has giant fingers because of the loaves of bread. I picked this photo just because of the idea, its genius.

    Clearing the Winter Storm- This first thing that gets my attention is the Shadowing on the mountains. I picked this photo because of the natural yet almost unrealistic look of the scenery.

     Obelisk and Fountains in the Place de la Concorde- My Focus goes straight to the monument and fountain. I picked this photo because of the lighting and the renaissance in Paris feel.

2) Wilderness by Ansel Adams- 

* I see lots of greenery and crystal blue water. My vision is restricted because of the cameras lens. But all my focus is on is the running water that moves so quickly.

* I smell pine and lumber. There is little pollen. I can smell the mold that has grown on the rocks under the water. 

* I hear rushing waters and birds chirping. The drops hit the surface of the river at such a constant pace never slowing down yet never gaining speed. The wind in the trees make a sound that makes you pause and breathe. 

* I taste trail mix. The saltiness of the peanuts and the sweet flavor of the chocolate m&m's. 

* I feel a camera in my hands the button like a trigger to capture something thats like a dream.The cool crispy winds running through my hair, my hair curling past my cheeks.

    Thunder Clouds by Ansel Adams- 
* I see white snow all around me theres a strange mix of red and browns in the snow from the rock that lye under the layers of white.  Also green, auburn, pine trees. The clouds with dark grey's underneath their sun glistening tops. 
* I smell the cedar that has climbed its way into the wind. And the acid rain that has fallen miles away.  
* I hear thunder as it shakes the earth in the distance. The rain falling only north of me hits the ground like ragging storms. Theres nothing but the storm and the new bright sky returning to give birds a chance to call.    
* I taste Hot Chocolate. 
* I feel the hairs on my skin stand up and reach the fabric I wear around my body. The warmth of hot chocolate goes through my whole body. Then the earth rumbles as thunder rawrs in the distance and suddenly I catch myself almost falling to the snow covered ground that already chills me from the shin down.

3) I think a great idea to show great photography is to use Facebook and Blogger.com, websites like those.

Academic Shoot Reflection

What challenges did you encounter while trying to get the photos following the rules I set out for you? Most of the classes were not very active that was my biggest challenge. 

What technical aspects of photography or the assignment in general (focus, framing, holding the camera, etc.) did you find yourself thinking about the most? Provide a specific example of what you did to do this correctly. I found myself thinking about lines the most, because it is the easiest and most effective for me. I  just looked for a subject then found similar lines that led up to subject. This is shown in my Library picture.

If you could do the assignment again, what would you do differently now that you know some basic rules of photography? I would have gone in more classrooms just because I didn't get enough photos and I also would have focused more on avoiding mergers, balance, and framing first.

What things would you do the same? I would have gone through the school in a orderly manner. And look for good activity.

When you go out with your next set of prompts, which rule do you think will be the easiest to achieve? Lines will be the easiest for me.

Which rule do you think will be the hardest to capture? The hardest to capture will be avoiding mergers.

What rule are you still not totally clear on and what can you do to figure out what that rule is? I'm still not clear on balance. I could go back to that website posted on Akinsphotojblog.blogspot.com or I could google more websites that could help explain.

1) This is my favorite of the photos I took, because it is so obvious what rule I used. The lines lead straight to him.
2) This is a picture of a boy in a library looking for a book.
3) It is very clear what the subject and rule is.

1) I think this rule was executed well.
2) This photo is of two guy's helping another guy with his class work.
3) I think it is clear what the subject is.

Academic Rule of Thirds

1) This rule is successful I think, because she is exactly to the far right of the photograph.
2) The subject in this picture is this girl learning how to play guitar to her music sheet, in the Orchestra classroom in the fine arts building.
3) I think it is very clear what she is doing if only i had gotten the tip of the guitar it would have been a little cleared that she was playing a guitar.

Academic Simplicity

1) This photo is absolute simplicity.
2) This subject is a girl in theatre practicing her projection skills using her script, in the hallway next to Ms. Siegel's Class.
3) It's clear that is a girl but not clear as to what she is doing because i accidentally cut off the paper she was reading and i didn't show the projection she was trying to deliver to the boy across the hallway.

Africa and Mural Project

Africa

This Powerpoint is so "Magnifica." It makes me wonder and feel like there is a  lot of mystery behind the animals. And the scenery is very mysterious. Like an alternate world. Below is one of my favorite photos from the powerpoint. The photo was taken by Nick Brandt and his subject is the mama and baby elephants. The shadowing is perfect and it seems like the elephants are in a glass bowl almost. It is my favorite because of the eye contact the mother is giving the camera lens, the motherly instinct and warmth in it, and the view of just a magnificent creature and how adorable this elephants baby is. 

Simplicity is used in this photo, and this is noticed by the plane field and sky behind the elephants. So the main focus is on them.

Balance is also used, and this is obvious because the whole elephant was included in the photo so it doesn't look like they are going to fall.

Nick Brandt avoided mergers. This is shown by the simple background as well there are no distractions from the motherhood in this photo.

a) Pentax 67II is what Nick Brandt used.

b) He took these photos to show the treatment of african wildlife. 

c) To show the terrible treatment to our wildlife and hopefully tell us to stop.

d) "It was so moving. I felt like I was watching these incredible creatures move across a landscape before man was around,” Brandt said.

Mural

1) We could use time as a theme.

2) We should use our regular cameras because some people like me hint hint don't have good camera phones.

3) Somewhere in the cafeteria because that's were for sure everyone could see it and people always put murals up in the fish bowl. We need a new place.

My Favorite Photo From issue.com

"Leaving it on the Mat" is my favorite photo. This photo was taken by Hailey Joe Allred. Taken in Duchesne Hight School, Duchesne Utah. It has amazing shadowing. I love the simplicity of the photo and the lighting. I also like this photo, because of the muscles being shown it displays the power of the human body.


1) I picked this photo because of the shadowing and the attraction to it because of the simplicity.
2) Simplicity, Balance, and the avoidance of mergers are used in taking this photo.

1) The science classes, band hall, gym, and football field are places that I could possibly take photos today.
2) The band teachers, Mr. Tambunga's classroom are a couple of classes I could take photos in.
3) I will need to focus on lighting, good angles, and framing.

Filling the Frame

This image is filling the frame with people and desks in the background also the fog in the middle. 

Action and Emotion

To me this photo doesn't have much going on but at the same time it does give me a sense of peace. The group is just standing there but in doing so they are doing so much. Now you don't know for sure what they are doing; they could be honoring a memorial of 9-11, or just praying. But no matter what they are doing it is just great to feel the emotion of surrender shown in this photo.

The Story

This photo tells a story of the young learning to help and feed the poor. It visually says this with an angle of the assembly line strait down the middle of the table and to see the smiling woman at the front of the photo shows the joy in these young adults giving with such great kindness and effort.

Post Shoot Reflection

1) I would have to say the challenges during the search for "Red, Metal, Happy" were finding happy images and being on time. Finding happy things was difficult because of the fact that every one was in class and without people to take pictures of it's hard to find things that are delightful. Also me and my partner went so far out on campus from the classroom we had to run back with one minute "to spare".

2) I found myself thinking about the "Red, Metal, Happy" project a lot since we took the photos. 

3) If I could go back I would have taken pictures that had more simplicity and lines and also use the rule of thirds method.

4) Find things that were moving, or use unique ideas that not a lot of people think of. 

5) I achieved in using Simplicity, Lines, and Avoiding Mergers.

Avoiding Mergers

This photo has no avoiding mergers because of it is the only thing in the image besides the plain grey wall behind it. Also making it a photo of simplicity.

Framing

The framing is represented in this photo through to shadows of the buildings that surround ground zero. And with that framing your focus goes strait to the subject which is ground zero.

Balance

Balance using geometric lines can show balance in a photo. Although the moment itself doesn't give a sense of balance the photo does because of the triangles that are made on the photo, such as the peoples legs.

Lines

I think the this is different example of lines because the lines of the building don't lead to subject but show the direction of subject is moving.

The Rule of Thirds

This photo represents The Rule of Thirds with the fact that the sign is off center to show the city in the background. It divides the picture in to thirds vertically.

Simplicity

I chose this photo because your attention goes strait to the main subject. It is the only thing in the picture there is nothing else in the way to clutter the subject. And the plain background gives it that simple effect.

Unusual and Interesting Photos

 Part 1

1) My first reaction to the 21 photos is to check my eyes.

2) I actually have no idea how the photographer would have done this.

3) The Frost Bank building in Austin, TX would be a very cool building to try to distort the way buildings were altered in the 21 photos.

Part 2

1) I picked this photo because it is so natural but seems so serial in a way.
2) I found this in the Environment (nature, wildlife) picture story catagory.
3) 3rd place
4)The photographer showed an ariel view of the thunderstorm on one side and the ocean on the other with the coast being the divider.
5) I think the nature itself caught the eyes of the judges the most. So the subject is what weighed more in the minds of the judges.
6) I think think that the photographer had to figure out how to get in the air at the very moment of the storm moving.

 1) I picked this photo because it attracted my eyes with all the colors and the patterns of the giraffes.

 2) The category for this photo was Environment (nature, wildlife) picture story.

 3) 3rd place

 4) The photographer had to get in a high place to get the landscape and those freakin tall giraffes.

 5) What weighed the most in the judges mind was probably the subject itself, because of the natural beauty it show.

 6) The photographer had to get himself in the right place for the perfect angle.

 1) I simply picked this photo because I love apes and do see a baby one with its mother just makes me wanna cry. I know I'm such a wimp.

 5) I think the subject itself caught the judges eyes more because of the baby with it's mama.
